Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) plans, new effective January 1, 2014, are available to Medicare eligible employees. These plans pay around what the Medicare insurance does not cover. The premiums for these plans are less expensive than the standard health insurance plans because Medicare pays for some things that the MSP plans do not and the MSP plans pay for some things that the Medicare does not it is a Win/Win situation.
Because there is an application process for both the employee and the employer, we encourage all parishes to sign up now to be eligible to offer these plans. The advantage you will have by signing up now is that you will already be approved as an employer and a new employee eligible for Medicare will be able to obtain this plan much quicker. There is no cost for the employer to sign up.
