Here’s an update of the actions and activities of the Diocesan Discernment Committee to date. Most importantly the Discernment Committee has asked during this time of transition for the Diocese of Easton to be in prayer. In addition, the following activities by the Discernment Committee are occurring:
- The Prayer Team has published several prayers to be used by members of the Diocese. The prayers are on the Diocesan website and have been communicated to the parishes. The Prayer Team is also contacting parishes and asking them to say prayers for transition and discernment every Sunday and to ask a prayer group to include these prayers in their prayer time.
- The Communications Team has established a Transition webpage on the Diocesan website, and a prayer page as well: https://dioceseofeaston.org/transition. The Communications team posts Discernment Committee communications and updates on the website to ensure transparency of its activities.
- The Data Gathering Team is working with diocesan staff and reviewing diocesan and parochial reports to put together a profile of the diocese’s financial and organizational structures.
- The Diocese Comparison Team is researching dioceses that are comparable with the Diocese of Easton to learn how they are organized and what they might teach us.
- Co-Chair of the Discernment Committee, the Very Rev. David Michaud, and President of the Standing Committee, the Rev. Dr. Darcy Williams, will meet with clergy at their three convocation meetings and discuss the status of the transition and discernment: Southern Convocation September 2; Middle Convocation September 4; Northern Convocation September 9.
- The Discernment Committee will review these summer activities at its September 16 meeting and plan its next actions.
