The United Thank Offering is a ministry of gratitude. Drop a coin in the Blue Box and give thanks for a blessing or challenge in your life. Then, twice a year, we have In-gatherings to collect all those coins of gratitude. Once every three years, these offerings are collected at General Convention. Monies collected go back out again through grants to dioceses for new ministries.
These collections really do change lives. You will recall the $50,000 grant to Agape Family Ministries in the June Eastern Shore Episcopalian. That grant, which was made possible by the United Thank Offering Ministry and your Blue Box collections, is a perfect example of how the Gift of Thankfulness can impact life-changing programs in our own diocese.
In the 2012 granting cycle, your collections contributed to a $25,000 grant establishing St. Andrew’s, Princess Anne, Montessori Preschool, which will provide a quality preschool for poverty level children.
So, put gifts into the Blue Box with thanksgiving, prayer, and generosity. Take blessings out of the Box for grants extending the church’s faithfulness to God’s mission.
Important deadlines are:
February 17 – all grant applications are due to the diocesan office by noon. Please read the application guidelines carefully.
February 20-28 The Bishop and the Grants Committee review the applications and choose one to put forward – we are limited to one.
March 1 – Diocese submits selected application to the United Thank Offering.
