Bishop’s Pastoral Communication
Feast of St. Andrew, Apostle
The Diocese of Easton remains indebted to the ministry of the Reverend Mark S. Delcuze, who recently retired from his position as Rector of Christ Church Parish, Stevensville and Dean of the Middle Convocation. He will be recognized for resuscitating the Middle Convocation Clericus, gathering clergy together for worship, conversation, and fellowship – an integral quality in advancement of life in any Christian Community. We wish Rev. Mark all the best in his next chapter and do likewise, honor this legacy while following God’s Mission for what is next.
To this end, with Diocesan Convention approaching (the presence of the deans is integral to the effective execution of convention) I have spent time in deep prayer and conversation in focusing on the question, where is the Spirit leading the diocese and what are we seeking to achieve in the reimagining of the church for the 21st century?
And so, Pursuant to Canon 601.5, I have invited, and she has accepted, the Reverend Susan Leight, Rector, Christ Church-Choptank Parish, to serve as Dean of the Middle Convocation effective Advent Sunday 2023. Susan is a graduate of Virginia Theological Seminary and a recently ordained priest. As a lay person at Christ Church Easton, she devoted much of her ministry to building bridges and bringing people together through servanthood ministry. We are confident these gifts will continue to empower her leadership among clergy in the convocation. As the diocese continues in the path of resurrection, revival and renewal into the 21st century we are excited at the prospect of bringing new ideas, thoughts and insights to the work.
Susie will be installed as Dean, Middle Convocation, at the Opening Eucharist of the 156th Annual Diocesan Convention on Friday, March 8, 2024, Emmanuel Parish, Chestertown.
